Roux-En-Y Surgery

Also known as RNY gastric bypass surgery, roux-en-y surgery is the most common form of laparoscopic surgery. As opposed to lap band surgery, which artificially limits the size of a patient's stomach, RNY gastric bypass surgery bypasses sections of the stomach and small intestine. Therefore less food is absorbed into your system.

• The stomach is surgically divided in two, creating a small pouch that will act as the "new" stomach
• Staples seal both the "old" and "new" stomachs
• The small intestine is disconnected from the "old" stomach, which is sealed by staples
• The new stomach is safely connected by staples to the detached small intestine
