Gastric Sleeve Surgery: Rick's Success Story

Hello, my name is Rick.

I recently underwent bariatric surgery in Tijuana Mexico, which was coordinated through Obesity Solutions International. I had a vertical sleeve gastrectomy on August 15th 2011 by Dr. Fernando Garcia.My personal experience in Tijuana exceeded my greatest expectations. From the time I arrived in San Diego I was treated with respect and dignity. Everything was taken care of for me. There was very little for me to worry about, which left me able to focus on my surgery.

My surgery took place at the Hospital Mi Doctor in Tijuana, literally minutes from the US border. The facility is small, but it is very clean and up to date. The staff was wonderful. Dr. Garcia did an awesome job on my surgery. Dr. Cabrera also did an awesome job with the anesthesia. Drs. Velazco and Romero took excellent care of me post-op. I had very little pain, and none that was intolerable. The nurse and ancillary staff were competent and compassionate. Everyone was extremely pleasant.

I am 20 days post-op today and I have lost 36 pounds so far. I feel better than I have in years. My blood pressure is down, my blood sugar is stable, and my outlook on life is much, much more positive. As of now, I don’t have any regrets about my decision to have this surgery in Tijuana, except maybe that I didn’t do it sooner.

I am very thankful for all of the people who have helped me begin this journey including Alma, (my coordinator), Dr. Garcia, Dr. Cabreira, Dr. Velazco, Dr. Romero, Ricardo, all of the nurses, all of the ancillary staff, and my family. I’m very excited for the next few months as I anticipate my weight will continue to melt away. I’m so glad I didn’t wait to have this surgery.

I am posting a pre-operative picture of myself. In a few months I will post another one, which I’mconfident will be a much slimmer version of me.

Update: 11-15-11

Good morning Alma, Remember me? I wanted to send you an update and a recent picture. A couple of months ago, I sent you a before photo, and I promised I would send you an after photo. Today I am 3 months post-op. I stepped on the scale this morning, and I have lost 85 pounds. I have dropped from a size 48 jeans to a size 38. That is simply amazing to me. I remember the first time I spoke to you, and you told me that if I had surgery in August, I could possibly lose 90 pounds by Thanksgiving. Next week is Thanksgiving, and I should be down 90 pounds by then. You were exactly right. I have 75 more pounds to lose to reach my goal weight. 5 months ago I felt hopeless about my weight, now I grow more confident every day that I will reach my goal. I can't tell you how happy that makes me.

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart! There are no words to describe how grateful I am to you and to all of the staff at Obesity Solutions Int., and the Hospital Mi Doctor in Tijuana. You guys are my heroes! I love you all for what you did for me. You have really helped me change my life for the better.
