Steps to Assure Patient Safety in Monterrey
Our doctors place great personal value on assuring patients that they are completely safe by offering patients a number of security measures that regular travelers do not enjoy. "Our goal is to assist you in making positive changes to ensure your future health and to leave Mexico knowing that your health is my priority." - Dr. Miguel Zapata.
Here's what patients can expect to happen once they get to Monterrey, Mexico. Upon arrival at General Mariano Escobedo International Airport in Monterrey, our private chauffeurs are there to meet patients and companions, help them load their luggage into the car and escort them across the city in our unmarked company cars. We work only with a private transport company and we have a long standing relationship with the owner and employees. You'll know they're our drivers because they'll be standing outside of the immigration area holding signs clearly marked "Ready 4A Change."
Patients and their companions will then be transported to the hotel. Our Mexican patient facilitator, Alma, will contact you using the driver's cell phone on your way to the hotel and advise you of your appointment times. You will be given the precise time the driver will be meeting you for each appointment. Your driver will meet you in the lobby of the hotel for each of your appointments.
Please remember that no matter what point you are at on your itinerary, our staff will always be available to offer ground transport to you and your companions to and from the airport, hotel and hospital. You can also reserve our transportation staff for escorted sightseeing and shopping excursions - they will keep you in safe areas of the city.
What to expect at the hotel. The patient's hotel is the Sheraton Four Points Galerias, a hotel with stringent security measures in place to assure guests' safety. Entrance points to guests' areas are all protected and are only accessible to current staff members and guests with activated room keys.
The hotel also has a secure overhead walkway connecting the hotel to the adjacent Galerias Monterrey Shopping Mall across the street. The Galerias Monterrey Shopping Mall is an upscale mall with all the creature comforts you'd expect to find in any nice shopping mall back home: banks, familiar eateries, fast food, fashionable retail stores and services.
Our Hospital
Clinica Vitro is a modern, secure facility. Our hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission of Hospitals and participates with many Universities and International Hospitals. One of the top hospitals in Mexico, Clinica Vitro follows standard US protocols on patient care, infection control, and has a very low infection rate of between 0.001% and 0.002%. Security measures are put in place at the hospital to assure patient safety, and all patient rooms are private.
Beautiful Monterrey
Monterrey is home to exceptional colleges, medical schools and technical schools, making Monterrey is the center of education for all of Latin America. Moreover, according to América Económica magazine, Monterrey is ranked as the safest city in Latin America along with Santiago in Chile.
While Monterrey retains much of its rich Mexican cultural heritage, the city is very modern, heavily industrialized, and hosts a huge and ever-growing number of American corporations. As a result, the city caters to American business travelers, which makes traveler's safety to Monterrey a number one priority of the local authorities and business owners. In fact, many Americans live in Monterrey. Monterrey was named "one of the safest big cities in Mexico" by the Overseas Security Advisory Council in its 2008 report on Crime and Safety in Mexico. While you do hear about crime in Mexico, the majority of crime reported in the media is in regards to drug factions and is not a threat to Americans traveling in Mexico.
The security measures you can put in to place to assure your own safety while traveling in Mexico are the same measures you would take if you were traveling to any large city:
- Don't wear expensive jewelry. Flashy jewelry can make you a target for theft.
- Don't follow strangers into back alleys -even if they want to "sell you something at a great price."
- Stay in the safe parts of town. Tourist areas, the area around your hotel and popular restaurants are all safe places to enjoy Mexico.
- Keep your cash on hand to a minimum. Separate out what you'll need for shopping and store the rest in your room safe. Most merchants accept major credit cards.
Traveling to Mexico
Traveling to Mexico is a very simple process, but it is worth keeping in mind that as a part of the US Homeland Security measures put into place over the last decade, all travelers to Mexico must bring a passport.
