Restylyn

 

The procedure: treatment with Restylyn can begin after a skin test determines that you're not allergic to the substance. The Restylyn is injected using a fine needle inserted at several points along the edge of the treatment site. If a local anesthesia has not been used, you may feel some minor stinging or burning as the injections are administered.

 

Since part of the substance is salt water that will be absorbed by the body within a few days, your doctor will slightly overfill the area. You may be asked to hold a hand mirror during the procedure to help your doctor decide when you've had enough.

 

Immediately following treatment you may notice some minor discomfort, stinging or throbbing in the injected area. Occasionally some bruising or swelling will occur, but it is usually minor. Any redness that appears in the injected site usually disappears within 24 hours. However, in some individuals, particularly fair-skinned patients, this redness may persist for a week or more. Tiny scabs may also form over the needle-stick areas; these generally heal quickly.

 

No bandaging is needed and you are free to eat, drink, and wear makeup with sun block protection shortly thereafter. There may be some temporary swelling and redness in the treated area which should dissipate within a few days. If these symptoms persist, contact your surgeon.

 

Results: As stated earlier the duration of results from Restylyn injections is variable. Restylyn's longevity depends on the patient's lifestyle and physical characteristics as well as the part of the body treated. In general the injected material is likely to disappear faster in areas that are more affected by muscle movement.

 

Fat

 

IFat transplantation or fat-injection involves extracting fat from a patient's abdomen, leg, buttock or elsewhere and reinjecting it beneath the facial skin in order to enhance certain features or remove visible lines or wrinkles. Common procedures include:

     • Cheek and laugh line injection
     • Eyelid Fat-injection
     • Fat transplantation to enhance your lips

After both the donor (leg or buttock) and recipient (eyelid, cheek, forehead, etc.) sites are cleansed and treated with a local anesthesia, fat is withdrawn using a syringe attached to a suction device. Once removed the fat is inserted into a needle from which it is injected beneath the patient’s skin. Because the transplantation sites receive general anesthesia, the procedure is mostly painless.

As with Restylyn "overfilling" of the fat-injection is necessary to allow for fat absorption into the body. As a result of overfilling, the patient’s enhanced region may remain "puffy" for several weeks. This is a natural and harmless process.

Depending on the procedure, your plastic surgeon may request that you abstain from certain activities in the weeks following your fat-injection. The longevity of fat-injection varies greatly from patient to patient. Some patients have reported results lasting more than a year; however, most patients find that approximately one-half of the fat-injection disappears within 3-6 months.
 

Plastic Surgery

 

To be a good candidate for plastic surgery, you must have realistic expectations about what the procedures can do for you. It's important to understand that plastic surgery can enhance your appearance and self-confidence, but it won't necessarily change your looks to match your ideal. Before you decide to have plastic surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with Dr. Cárdenas.

You should be physically healthy and psychologically stable. Your age is not a major consideration; however, older patients may have diminished skin elasticity and may not achieve the same results as a younger patient with tighter skin.

Plastic surgery carries greater risk for individuals with medical problems such as diabetes, significant heart or lung disease, poor blood circulation, or individuals who have recently had surgery near the area to be contoured.

Dr. Cárdenas will give you specific instructions on how to prepare for surgery, including guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking, and taking or avoiding vitamins, iron tablets and certain medications. If you develop a cold or an infection of any kind, especially a skin infection, your surgery may have to be postponed.

Liposuction

 

Liposuction is a procedure that can help sculpt the body by removing unwanted fat from specific areas, including the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks and neck. During the past decade, liposuction, which is also known as "lipoplasty" or "suction lipectomy," has benefited from several new refinements Although no type of liposuction is a substitute for dieting and exercise, liposuction can remove stubborn areas of fat that don't respond to traditional weight-loss methods. The time required to perform liposuction may vary considerably, depending on the size of the area, the amount of fat being removed, the type of anesthesia and the technique used.

 

Liposuction is a procedure in which localized deposits of fat are removed to recontour one or more areas of the body. Through a tiny incision, a narrow tube or cannula is inserted and used to vacuum the fat layer that lies deep beneath the skin. The cannula is pushed then pulled through the fat layer, breaking up the fat cells and suctioning them out. The suction action is provided by a vacuum pump or a large syringe, depending on the surgeon's preference. If many areas are being treated, your surgeon will then move on to the next area, working to keep the incisions as inconspicuous as possible.

 

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

 

A tummy tuck known formally as an abdominoplasty, is a plastic surgery procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the abdomen and tightens the abdominal wall muscles. Many patients seeking a tummy tuck are individuals who have lost excessive amounts of weight in the past and are left with unsightly loose skin around the abdomen. Unfortunately this loose skin does not return to normal over time, and a tummy tuck is often the only solution to repair the stretched abdominal region.

 
Although it is a relatively simple procedure, a tummy tuck is a major form of plastic surgery, and a large incision must be made in the lower abdomen in order to perform the abdominoplasty. Loose skin is then removed from the separated skin and the newly resized skin is sutured shut. A tummy tuck will leave a sizable scar on the patient’s lower abdomen. This scar will fade over time.
 

Tummy tuck plastic surgery usually lasts between 2 and 5 hours. Recovery time is fast and patients can generally return to work 2 to 4 weeks after the tummy tuck. Occasionally patients experience temporary pain, swelling, or numbness in the abdomen after the tummy tuck procedure has been performed.

Thigh Lift

 

A thigh lift is a surgical procedure to remove loose skin from the thighs. Successful and sustained massive weight loss can lead to extensive redundancy of skin in the inner thigh area. Constant rubbing together of the redundant inner thigh folds predisposes to areas of skin irritation and infection and interferes with personal hygiene. Clothing may be difficult to fit and there may be psychosocial concerns of a disfigured appearance. Comfort and appearance improve by the plastic surgery procedure known as the thigh lift.

 

A thigh lift involves resection of redundant thigh tissue. Redundant thigh tissue may extend to involve the buttocks and back of the thigh. Removal of excessive skin and fatty tissue of the inner thigh, a thigh lift, uses incisions that parallel the groin crease. The thigh lift is usually performed on the inner surface of the thighs but can include the outer thigh area and buttock if indicated.

 

Arm Lift

Facial Implants

Blepharoplasty

 

Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure that removes fat or skin and muscle from an eyelid. Eyelid surgery can be performed in order to correct a sagging upper eyelid and bags beneath the eyes. Blepharoplasty may remove signs of aging and return the area around your eyes to a more lively state. Blepharoplasty is often performed alongside other plastic surgery procedures such as a facelift or brow lift.

The best candidates for blepharoplasty are men and women who are physically and psychologically stable and realistic in their expectations. Most patients are 35 or older.

Blepharoplasty surgery generally lasts between one and three hours, depending on the extent of the blepharoplasty and the number of eyelids being worked on. Blepharoplasty is generally performed while the patient is under local anesthetics, so no pain is involved.

The procedure is relatively simple – incisions are made in the eyelid and excess skin is removed. Then the remaining skin is sutured leaving healthy, younger looking eyes.

Following the procedure patients may, for a short period of time, experience discomfort when wearing contact lenses. Normal activities such as reading and watching television can resume only days after a blepharoplasty.

Rhinoplasty

 

Reconstructive plastic surgery on the nose (Rhinoplasty) is an extremely common procedure that can alter the size of your nose, adjust the shape of the tip or the bridge of your nose, narrow nostril width, or change your nose's angle. Rhinoplasty surgery may also correct birth defects, injuries, or breathing problems. This is often an outpatient procedure, so there is no hospital stay; however, for more serious rhinoplasty surgeries, an overnight stay in the hospital may be necessary.
