You may take needed medications (such as heart or blood pressure medications) the day before surgery

Do not take any aspirin, Advil, Nuprin, Aleve or any other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication for 7 days prior to surgery. These medications cause unnecessary bleeding after surgery. This includes baby aspirin and most arthritis medications. If you are not sure, please check with our Drs.. For headache or minor pains you may use Tylenol. You may restart these medications the next day after surgery. (Certain medical conditions need anticoagulants which must be stop or changed before surgery you need to ask your Dr in the states how to do it)

Do not take any herbal medications for 7 days prior to surgery.

Bring comfortable shoes and slippers to Mexico, you will be asked to walk several times per day.

Please bring your medications in properly labeled pharmaceutical bottles for documentation of dosages.

Lapband Surgery Diet

Food, Drink and Exercise After Your Surgery

Inflammation is present after any surgery, which will heal and disappear in one or two months. In the meantime, you will recover quickly and be able to eat and drink comfortably even though you now have a new and smaller stomach.

The band is restricting the quantity of food passing through it. Stop eating immediately as soon as you feel the sensation of being full. Overeating may cause vomiting, which can loosen the stitches connecting the band to the stomach. In some cases, surgery may be required to correct the damage.

Eat slowly. Plan to spend 30 to 45 minutes for each meal, even though you are eating small amounts of food.

Drink at least 8 cups of water every day (64 ounces, or 100 ml), but never with meals. Avoid carbonated drinks as they may enlarge your new stomach, diminishing the success of your surgery.

First few weeks

Foods for week one. Choose bland, soft, and liquid food. Clear fruit juices and broth, gelatin, yogurt, non-carbonated drinks. Creamy soups if very watery by the end of this week

Foods for week two. Vegetables and fruits, mashed or pureed. Other soft foods like oatmeal and other cereal products (grains), cream of wheat, and wheat toast.

cottage cheese, creamy soups,. non-fat pudding low-calorie, skim milk

Foods for week three. Examples that you may include in this phase are fish, meat patties, eggs and beans.

Foods for week four. Include chicken, must be very moist. If dry, with gravy, tomato sauce, or other sauces or liquids to add moisture.

Examples that you may include in this phase are fish and chicken, meat patties, eggs, and beans. Incorporate carbohydrates, such as oats, cereal products (grains), oatmeal, cream of wheat, and wheat toast.

Foods for week five. Add beef, preferably ground. Other cuts are acceptable if juicy and tender.

Foods for week six and onward. Your diet should return to almost normal, depending on your tolerance. Every person is different on what foods their body tolerates.

During these weeks you will begin to lose weight. Make this success your motivation to continue your new healthy lifestyle.

Exercise

Remember to take it slow in the beginning. Your body must get used to the new activity.

Walk every day. Stretch for five minutes. Do not bend over from the waist.

Week one   Week two   Week three   Week four
10 minutes   15 minutes   20 minutes   30 minutes

Lifting weights at the gym, strenuous swimming (stretching out), lifting a baby or heavy object from the floor, horseback riding, scuba diving, and other such activities should wait until after weeks four or five when the body is completely healed.
